HOLIDAY CONCERTS

For the next three weeks, the sound of holiday music will fill concert halls and churches. Here’s your guide to concerts in the West Island and Vaudreuil-Soulanges region.


Attending a holiday concert is an instant way to bestow a festive spirit. From carol singalongs and acapella jazz to soaring Renaissance music in church settings, there’s a broad range of choice to appeal to everyone.


BEACONSFIELD

> Holiday Enchantment

* Free outdoor concert. The holiday spirit will be at Centennial Park with a Christmas concert, animation and snacks. 

When: Saturday, Dec. 10 — 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Where: Centennial Park, 288 Beaconsfield Blvd., Beaconsfield.



HUDSON

> Christmas Concert by the 306 (Maple Leaf) Wing Concert Band

* This concert features festive music and a wine reception during the intermission.

When: Saturday, Dec. 3 — 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.

Where: St. James Anglican Church, 642 Main Rd., Hudson.

> Greenwood Singers 20th Anniversary Concert

* This special concert by the Greenwood Singers will be a trip down memory lane, filled with favourite songs from the past 20 years.

When: Friday, Dec. 9 — 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Where: St. James Anglican Church, 642 Main Rd., Hudson.

> A Christmas Concert 

* This concert, organized by the Hudson Creative Hub, features Vocalia Ensemble and Ukrainian Quartet performing music for joy and peace under the musical direction of tenor Louis Langelier.

When: Sunday, Dec. 11 — 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Where: St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 413 Main Rd., Hudson.

PIERREFONDS-ROXBORO

> Noël en famille 

* The premiere of the show Noël en famille brings together soprano Natalie Choquette, her daughters Florence K, Éléonore and Ariane Lagacé, and her granddaughter Alice to perform seasonal classics and—as a bonus—excerpts from The Sound of Music.

When: Sunday, Dec. 11 — 2 p.m. to 3:15 p.m.

POINTE-CLAIRE

> Stewart Hall Singers Sing Christmas

* The Stewart Hall Singers, under the direction of Douglas Knight, will perform Christmas classics, interpreted with warmth and emotion in a cozy atmosphere.
When: Sunday, Dec. 4 at 3 p.m.

Where: Stewart Hall Cultural Centre, 176 Bord-du-lac/Lakeshore Rd., Pointe-Claire.

Good to know: Free but reservation required.


> O Magnum Mysterium

* The Sainte-Anne Singers perform Renaissance motets by Sweelinck and Handl-Gallus; contemporary carols by Sarah Quartel, Eleanor Daley, Mark Sirett, Martin Fairbank, Paul Halley and Ivo Antognini; and songs celebrating the harsh beauty of winter by Kathleen Allan and Toby Young.

When: Saturday December 10 at 8 p.m.

Where: Cedar Park United Church, 204 Lakeview Blvd., Pointe-Claire.

> Jazzy Christmas — Rémi Bolduc Jazz Ensemble

  • * Christmas songs are revisited. Alto saxophone master Rémi Bolduc reinterprets the greatest Christmas music, classics and lesser-known tunes, and adds his “blue” touch to them. This is a perfect event for those who love Christmas and jazz. Rémi Bolduc, alto saxophone; François Bourassa, piano; Ira Coleman, double bass; Jim Doxas, drums.

Where: Saint-Joachim Church, 2 Sainte-Anne St., Pointe-Claire Village.

When: Friday, Dec. 2 at 8 p.m.

> Guffman 5 — Ready for the Holidays

* Enjoy the holiday music of Guffman 5, a vocal group that includes Julie Lafontaine, Mary Burns, Darryl Macdonald and Chris Maragoudakis. This performance features John Sadowy on piano.

When: Saturday, Dec. 3 at 7:30 p.m.

Where: St. Columba by the Lake Church, 11 Rodney Ave., Pointe-Claire.

SAINTE-ANNE-DE-BELLEVUE

> Solstice Jam

* A benefit concert, with all proceeds going to the Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue Food Bank, will feature musicians Mike Bleho, Bill Gossage & Glen Roy, Jeff Smallwood, Jeff Griese, Michko Larente, Jen Zawada, Ian Gray.

When: Saturday, Dec. 10 at 7 p.m.

Where: Centre Harpell, 60 Saint-Pierre St., Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue.

> Christmas Concert by the Chorale Philomela Singers

  • * The Chorale Philomela Singers’ Christmas concert features carols and songs about the magic of icy winter nights. This event includes an interlude by pianist Judy Hung.
