Municipal festivals offer West Island families an entertaining opportunity to enjoy the winter weather.
Here is your guide to winter carnivals happening throughout the West Island.
DOLLARD DES ORMEAUX
When: Saturday, February 5 — 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Where: Centennial Park, 2983 Lake Rd., Dollard-des-Ormeaux.
Good to know: Family activities will include skating, maple taffy on snow, an illuminated mini-putt game, music, a bonfire, special lighting for the skating rink, tobogganing until sundown, horse-drawn carriage rides, a heated igloo, and food and drink. Snow date: February 5.
DORVAL
When: February 8 to 12
Where: Various locations. Consult the guide here.
Good to know: Activities include a snow-sculpture contest, comedy nights, figure skating demonstration, lumifest, sugar shack dinner and family quiz, and a sports day. Learn the specifics here.
HUDSON
When: Saturday, February 18.
Where: St. Thomas Park, 78 Blenkinship Rd., Hudson.
Good to know: Called Shiver Fest (Festi Neige en français) features horse-drawn carriage rides, taffy on snow, skating, sliding on the new snow hill, and music.
KIRKLAND
When: Saturday, January 28 — 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Where: Meades Park, 16950 Hymus Blvd., Kirkland.
Good to know: Features sleigh rides, outdoor skating, music and entertainment, pony rides, a barbecue, maple taffy and inflatable games.
L’ÎLE BIZARD-SAINTE-GENEVIÈVE
When and Where: Friday, February 24 (6 p.m. to 9 p.m.) at Eugène-Dostie Park, 3243 Chevremont Blvd., Île Bizard; and Saturday, February 25 (noon to 4 p.m.) at Robert Sauvé Park, 15742 Rue de la Caserne, Sainte-Geneviève. Note: This was postponed from the first weekend of February because of extreme cold.
Good to know: Friday will feature an evening of skating à la 1980s. Saturday will feature skating to music, slides and inflatables, a petting farm (alpaca, sheep and goats), a games area, a lighted puppet show and more.
PINCOURT
When: Saturday, January 28 — 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Where: Olympic Park, 375 Cardinal-Léger Blvd., Pincourt.
Good to know: Activities include inflatable games, tubing, free skating, a mini farm, sleigh rides, a kiosk of games of yesteryear. Sugar shack and food stands. Free hot beverages but do take your own reusable cup.
POINTE-CLAIRE
When: Saturday, January 28 — 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Where: Northview Park, 111 Viking Ave., Pointe-Claire.
Good to know: Winter Carnival 2023 will feature skating, inflatable games, and entertainment. Take a reusable cup to have a hot chocolate, and enjoy the barbecue held by WIAIH (West Island Association for the Intellectually Handicapped).
SENNEVILLE
When: Saturday, February 11 — 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Where: Senneville Park, 20 Morningside Ave.
Good to know: The village’s annual Winter Carnival will feature skating, sliding, interactive games, snow sculptures and a mobile farm (goats, llama, donkey, mini pig, hens, roosters, chinchillas, ducks and rabbits).
